New Paths for The Intellectually Talented

Gifted Assessments

Does your child grasp concepts quickly? Do they make abstract connections to information? If yes, a Gifted Assessment can help identify and support a child's or adolescent's hidden gifts.

All children have the capacity and potential for learning and the verbalizations, actions, and connections they create remind us of this inherent gift. Some children process information quickly and make connections that are beyond what would be expected for their age. Some children seem disengaged with learning, underachieve academically, have a fear of failure, or demonstrate disruptive classroom behaviours. Could they be intellectually gifted?

Our Process

What Are The Benefits Of A Gifted Assessment?

A gifted assessment will:

  • Demonstrate your child’s or adolescent’s exceptional cognitive abilities
  • Provide clarification and understanding of academic, attentional, and behavioural performance
  • Determine eligibility to be identified as a Gifted individual with your school board
  • Provide documentation needed to gain access to gifted programs
  • Provide an enriched academic curriculum that motivates and engages your child in learning
  • Provide a social environment where your child can make meaningful, stimulating relationships
What Is The Process Of A Gifted Assessment?

At the New Path Psychology, we are passionate about providing every child, adolescent, and young adult with the ability to create new paths that contribute to their academic, social, behavioural, and emotional growth. Our comprehensive gifted assessments are divided into two sessions:

Session 1:
Collecting Information & Testing
Session 2:
Feedback & Recommendations
Session 1: Collecting Information & Testing

The first session involves the following:

  • Reviewing privacy policy, confidentiality laws, and obtaining your consent
  • Collecting information about your child’s early developmental history
  • Collecting information about your child’s past and current academic functioning
  • Cognitive and academic testing
At your first session, please provide us with your child’s past and current report cards.

Each school board has different criteria for gifted identification. It is recommended that you inquire whether a cognitive test is sufficient or academic testing is also required. Your assessment fee is dependent on the testing performed.

Estimated Duration:
2 to 3 hours
Session 2: Feedback & Recommendations

The second session involves the following:

  • Reviewing the results of the gifted assessment and outlining your child’s strengths
  • Feedback about the assessment process
  • Recommendations to support your child's exceptionally developed cognitive abilities
Opportunity to ask questions about the results, application of recommendations and future implications.

If your child meets criteria for giftedness as outlined by your school board, we will explain how your child can be identified as an exceptional student through an Identification Process and Review Committee meeting through your school board and gain access to gifted programming.

Estimated Duration:
1 hour
